Bernard H. Meck

Bernard H. Meck, 82, of Old State Road, Reading, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 in his home. He was the husband of Audrey (Harrison) Meck. They were married 62 years last March 11th.

Born in Emmaus, PA he was the son of the late Uriah and Elizabeth (Meck) Meck. He was a 1941 graduate of Kutztown High School. He enlisted on November 4, 1942 with US Army Air Corp and was based in England with the 8th AF. He saw combat as a crewman flying missions in B17 Aircraft. He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1945 to 1951. He was on the Alsace Twp. Planning Committee from 1985 to 1995; the Lighthouse Community Church Planning Committee; a member of the Huguenot Lodge #377, F. & A.M., Kutztown; and was a founder of the Kutztown Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, Mount Pocono, retiring in 1984 and was recognized by the company for over two million safe driver miles. He was a private pilot who loved to fly and was a skilled woodworker/cabinet maker. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Huff’s Union Church, Alburtis. 

He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Virginia E. wife of Clair W. Wetzel, Mertztown; Son, Michael B. husband of Mary Ann (Light) Meck, Durham, NC; Sister, Mildred (Beitler) Willenbecker, Allentown; Granddaughters, Audrey A. Faust, Dodie M. Hollenbach, Jenna M. Meck and Rosanne K. Magers; Great Grandchildren, Ashley N. Seaman, Elizabeth C. Faust, Benjamin B. Faust, Ashley M. Hollenbach, Allyson E. Faust, Joseph M. Faust, Jakob R. Hollenbach and Leah K. Hollenbach.

Funeral Services are Friday, June 30, 2006, at 10:30 AM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 E. Weis Street, Topton. Interment with Military Honors in Huff’s Church Union Cemetery, Alburtis. Friends may call Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
