John E. Greis
John E. Greis, 80, of Kutztown, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, near Allentown, where he was a patient since September 4, 2006. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Shade) Greis. They were married November 27, 1948.
Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late William and Annie (Guinther) Greiss, and a stepson of the late Pearl (Kemp) Greiss. He first worked for his father as a dairy farmer for over ten years at the former Greiss Farm, Alburtis. He then worked for William Schultz, Kutztown, also as a dairy farmer for over ten years. He then worked for the Pennsylvania State Game Commission over 27 years, retiring in 1988 as foreman of Schuylkill County. He was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Fleetwood.
He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Lucille K. (Greis) wife of George O. Hebel, Allentown, Theresa S. (Greis) wife of Glenn C. Bennecoff, Reading, Melinda D. (Greis) wife of Robert J. Tercha, Mertztown; Son, Marlowe K. husband of Brenda L. (Yoder) Greis, Kutztown. In addition, he is survived by Sisters, Frances (Greiss) Leibensperger and Ruth (Greiss) Leibensperger, both of Alburtis; Brothers, Warren Greiss and Melvin Greiss, both of Alburtis, and Earl Greiss, Mertztown. There are also four grandchildren, Richard A. Hebel, State College, PA, Amy L. Bennecoff, Sinking Spring, Matthew C. Bennecoff, Philadelphia, Geoffrey A. Hebel, Allentown. He was predeceased by Brothers, David Greiss in 1948 and Ernest Greiss in 1999.
Funeral Services are Monday, October 2, 2006, at 10:30 AM from Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
The family requests contributions to New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 27 Lyons Road, Fleetwood, 19522. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
