Marlin L. “Stubby” Rhoads

Marlin L. “Stubby” Rhoads, 73, of Pricetown Road, (Rockland Twp) Fleetwood, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, where he was a patient since May 10th.

Born in the Village of Oley, Oley Twp., he was the son of the late Earl L. and the late Marie S. (Youse) Rhoads. He worked for his father since 1943 as a mechanic at the former Earl L. Rhoads Garage, New Jerusalem (Rockland Twp.); he later became a partner with his late sister Shirley L. until they closed the garage in 1997. He then worked for Piazza Honda of Reading from 1997 to 2003. He was a US Navy Veteran. He was a 1950 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Kutztown. He was former secretary of Cougar Tale, Kutztown, during 1990’s. He was a member and bugler of Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion, Topton, Honor Guard; A trumpeter for the Happy Dutchman Band, Kutztown; trumpeter for Reading Philharmonic Band; he was a former member of Brandywine Minstrels. In addition, he was a lifetime member of Rockland Rod & Gun Club, Mertztown; Member of Horace M. Kieffer, Post #625, American Legion, Fleetwood; Pikeville Sportsman Association; Goodwill Fire Company, Hyde Park; Lyons Fire Company; Lyons; Mertztown Rod & Gun Club, Mertztown; and Bowers Lions Club, Bowers. He was a member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ Church where he was a lifetime choir member and past treasurer for 25 years.

He is survived by Companion Shirley H. Solt; Daughters, Loren L. (Rhoads) Ulrich, Shillington, Karen K. (Rhoads) Barone, Limerick, Montgomery County; 8 Grandchildren.

Funeral Services are Saturday, May 20, 2006, 1:00 PM from Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown. Interment with Military Honors in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, (Rockland Twp.) Fleetwood. Friends may call Saturday 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to the memorial fund of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 33 Lyons Road, Fleetwood, 19522. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
