Helen C. Wessner

Helen was my Aunt. I wrote this poem in memory of her:

For Helen

Heaven opened her gates again today

To let pass a child of God come home to stay.

Though greatly missed will she be here,

Through memories precious we keep her near.

What comfort can simple words give

To the saddened hearts of those who yet live?

With downcast eyes and unabated tears,

We look back with longing over the past years.

Sometimes with regret and then again sadness

But most times with joy and great, great gladness.

We feel on our souls deeply the impression

Of the touch of a life and its daily expression.

We remember a woman with a kind and loving heart,

And a generous spirit from which we ache to part.

Too short was the time that we had to share,

But say goodbye we must, even be it hard to bare.

This day we mourn, while yet rejoice

That she has been called by God’s voice

And now finds herself again at peace

Safe inside the gates of Heaven, she rests at ease.

We haven't seen Aunt Helen in many years but were saddened to learn of her passing.  We send our prayers and best wishes to the family.
